From Games to Movies

What is the common thing of Lara Croft, Resident Evil, BloodRayne, Fatal Fury, Pokemon...? They are popular games, and well-known movies ^^. Being first as games, they were just too successul so making it into movies would bring producers a lot of profit.

Although a some of games to movie adaptations are good but most of them just ruin it like Hitman,Doom and others. They are making a $100 million movie on the strategy game WarCraft( first of all how can u make a movie for a strategy game! just don't get it).
Some of the movies i am waiting eagerly to come out from games are prince of Persia, off course WarCraft & the god of all:HALO.

As Mantello mentioned in class, the game industry is taking it's share of the media entertainment market, putting pressure on Hollywood. This is a good example of how they choose to respond; Making sure gamers don't completely leave the old media behind. The movie doesn't have to be good (it rarely is), it just needs to be related to a popular game title. "Extra material" if you like. But hey! Extra material is always nice ;P

I agree with Gabby...no matter how bad Max Payne is...it will still be interesting to see Marky Mark play him. What I am curious about if the film will be self-conscious in a way to suggest that its just a video game...
Perhaps, we are watching the dying death throes of old media...vinyl, 8-track tapes, cassettes, films...
