Mortal Kombat 9

Here is the first video I saw of the new Mortal Koombat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_MqZn7E-mk&feature=player_embedded

I found it on one Bulgarian Gamers Forum and because it was "leaked" and there was no official information about this project, no1 of us could say if it was a movie or a game. A few days later, on E3, the game was announced.

This vid is the first trailer of the game

http://kotaku.com/5560010/the-new-mortal-kombat-trailer-is-pure-brutality

and here is a really INSANE GAMEPLAY demo with one of the Dev's explaining about the game on the background

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRS3TbwTaus

I was about to write, how this game is returning MK ot it's original 2d Roots, how the game is pretty much made with nostalgia of the old school MK games in the 90s, but the Dev ( in the last video) explains it quite good :))

Despite of "tons of the good old stuff", there are a few new things like "the X-Ray moves", which show how your hit/attack deals internal damage in the body of the enemy ( crushing bones etc. etc. ) ...

Just watch it!

One thing I'll say is that THIS WILL be the game that will put MK back on the stage of fighting games with SF and Tekken !

Oh I almost forgot ... this will be "M" rated game ...

Cheers,
Methody

Racism in Virtual Worlds

The reading for today's class got me thinking about racism in game communities more. We've already mentioned the racism against Koreans due to gold farming behaviors, but I don't know if many people know much about the attitudes towards Brazilians in many mmorpgs.

Brazilians are frequently depicted as stupid beggars with a pack mentality, and that despite their perceived stupidity, I have heard or read a lot of anecdotes about how they've cunningly cheated other players out of items or in-game money, etc..

Here's a comic that floats around the internet a lot with a lot of the depictions that show up frequently. ("BR?" standing for "Brazilian?" and "huehuehue" is considered to be a distinctively Brazilian way of writing laughing; ie: "hahaha" though I've never actually seen it used myself)

What do you think of in-game racism? Have you encountered it? What do you think the logic of it is? I think it's very interesting that real-world prejudices can carry over to situations that are in theory unrelated, as in "Bow, nigger," and I am also fascinated that new prejudices can be created based solely on in-game behavior, as with gold farmers and Brazilians.

Game's Influence to Mind

In the last class we have talked about how it's not true that game makes people violent. But it is undeniable that game does influence our mind, especially to young gamers.

Humans are vulnerable to influences. Where, when, how long, and with whom you spend time with are the factors that shape you. It is a common knowledge that kids are faster learners, therefore, the easiest ones to be influenced.

okami-wii.jpg

Now, this game may influence you to be violent, or develop a hero worship for Amaterasu and make you worship deities in the end.

When I was young, I really like to play games and watch anime. People said that I was not a good girl--selfish, insensitive, etc--and they are right. And as I get older, I finally realized why I was not good.

Some characters from the games are badass characters and of course, they do badass things to prove that. As a kid, I knew those things are bad, but after a while, I begin to think that it is okay to do those bad things. Why? Because those characters do it, and it makes them look cool! And it's worse when those badass characters are the main character! As a kid, I just innocently tried to follow their example, and found out in a hard way that reality doesn't work that way.

Years later, I took a look again at those games and animes. I was surprised that some things are not the same as I remembered. Those characters that looked super cool before are just another human with bad and good qualities (some times just too plain bad and good). Strip them away from their, for example, super power and you'll find another human, that you may like or not like.

The point is, that children have limited ability to understand things completely because of lack of knowledge and experience. Violent games like Counter Strike, Call of Duty, etc don't make people violent right away, but they're not making good influences to children, assuming that they do play it for a long time.

[Yao]Dragging games into next level of "Interaction"

Talking about the wave of WEB 3.0, what is most popular amongst all new innovations ? The answer will probably be: Open Platform.

Nowadays, companies provide all sorts of Open Platform allowing designers to integrate their own vision with the corporation, such as Facebook Developers, Google API, Google Appengine, and even MIXI considered as the most conservative SNS, launched APIs. In the cellphone industry, there is iPhone SDK, Google Android SDK and so on.

So how about games ? What can we customize right now in games ? By far, there are only "illegal MODs" such as those in

Etc
....

And there are few Open Source games which allows programmers to create their own games,

Etc
..

There has been nothing like an API sort of stuff ever launched in games, well technically, there has been things like Map Creator Pack in Starcraft and Warcraft and also in other games. But there has BY FAR, never been any Map Editor or things like that allowing users to customize features inside the game engine itself (Legally, meaning without risking the stability of the program itself by Hacking or Monkey Patching or Reverse Engineering the Complied Program).

However, in a few months, there will be such thing coming soon, which is the Starcraft 2 and its almost "all mighty" map editor. The map editor is so powerful, so that you can even create FPS, or Car Racing Games with the map editor itself.

To See for yourself, Please Click here.

So, what really did the Galaxy Editor do ?

It liberated almost everyone from the original game plot, and offered us freedom to create our own game, which is absolutely evolutional for normal users, though this is nothing too fancy within the community of Power Users and Super Users, for Open Source Games have been years in the community.

What I really think is that did the Galaxy Editor REALLY gave freedom to users ?

What is the difference between the Galaxy Editor and Open Source Games.

And at last, I think someone will probably mention Spore in the discussions. I personally think it is sort of a failure towards the "openness" of the game, but still a nice try.

lets think in a different perspective

well......every ones saying that this game is good ...that game is good...etc etc. and some say that one game appeals on sex ...and the other is not...and some even say that this game is a unisex game...some say that character is for girls.. and for boys....!think like this for example.say the person who makes the game understands your expectations better than you and he wants to get it out from you and give more power to it...so that the game creator can squeeze your thoughts and attitudes in fulfilling your "wants" according to his discretions..but not yours.!!!think about this for a bit...in simple words if the game creator creates an image that a particular game is only for a specific category..we except it as it is.do you agree that to some extent our decision making is preceeded by the game creators opinion?????
try to give some insight..i want to put this in my report as well...

and hey do you guys know that the season 7 of the drama series 24 has started...

METAL SLUG 7

Hello, this is Dongwook.
I'd like to introduce a new hot game called 'Metal Slug 7.'
In case you might have not heard of the Metal Slug series, I found a link
it's the classic 2D adventure shooting action and
it's been played through a decade in arcades and home consoles.

The cool thing about this new seventh one is,
you can play anywhere you want!
Metal Slug 7 can be played in Nintendo DS, the little portable game machine.
It's actually amazing that you can play this game with the little portable screen
because remembering when I was little, I had to go to a arcade game center,
put some coins in, sit there and play.

Although there's not much seperate narration or movie scenes, there still is a story behind the game and you will learn them naturally as you proceed playing.

Take a look at the video below who want to check out how great it looks. Thank you!

a new video game i found from the net

I just view surf the net and found a news on the game spot. and think this can be a cool game.

Having conquered the air drones terrorizing the skies of Brazil, we moved on to the first America-based mission in the game, which was Washington DC. Prior to the mission, we had the option to choose our aircraft, a process in which you need to consider the requirements of the upcoming mission against the attributes of various jets. Things such as air-to-air versus air-to-ground capabilities are key, but each plane also has attributes for speed, handling, and armor. We settled on the F-22 Raptor, a great balance of each.
This first mission gave us the goal of defending the heart of Washington from PMC cargo planes dropping ground forces. It required us to divide our attention between enemies in the sky and those below. With such a huge altitude difference, this is where co-op strategy really comes into play, given that you'll probably want to divide your team into antiair and antiground forces. Taking out enemies in the air is definitely trickier because they can dodge and juke your missiles even when locked-on. Ground forces are usually easier, in that you're required to make a quick pass over the earth below, and your only real challenge is making sure that you don't get so low that you smash into a building.
The next stage in this mission took us from defending a bunch of politicians on the ground to one very important politician in the air, given that we had to escort Air Force One and keep it safe from a flurry of Russian MiG-23 jets. In this scenario, a good co-op strategy would be to let a pair of pilots play defense and the other two offense. That is to say, some players remain close to the president's plane and the others go take on the enemies before they get within firing range. Although our group was a little more scattered and freewheeling, we still managed to keep the president safe and sound.

well. .. i just read a post on how a kid kills when he is deprived of Halo3. quite interesting. here i would like to enlighten you guys with some intel. do you know that Halo is responsible for the establishment and initialization of FPS games in the Japanese VG market.yeh.its true. FPS games became popular with Halo. soooooo no wonder that kid goes crazy when he was deprived of Halo3!!

Thought this was interesting...ELYRIA, Ohio (Jan. 13) - Although a teenager's obsession with a violent video game may have warped his sense of reality

Just found a article posted 2 hours ago.

A kid killed his mom and wounded his father after they took Halo 3 away from him.

They said his attorney pleaded that

"I believe my client truly believed that when he killed he parents he didnt think they would be dead forever"

He got his dads gun, came up to his parents and said

"close your eyes i have a surprise" ...his dad said he honestly expected a pleasent surprise.

Terrible stuff, but check the link out.

I know we were talking about this in class, its just surprising to see it so recent.

It is strategy& action game. i have to say it again that id u like the games like empire earth , age of empire, battel realms etc. im prtty sure that u gonna love this one cuz the charator of this game is so attractive to all the player. In this game u will have a chance to choose to be Orc, Human , Undead and Elfs clanes. Each clane will have their own special ability and their own Hero. say ..recently i am reading some interesting articles on western and Japanese VG`s. as i have this presentation to do on VG`s ; i was quite perplexed of what to talk about. however, i tried to find the reason why most of the FPS WRPGS`s are not quite famous here.well .. it happend to be interesting..you know why....i read some very nice articles actually illustrations from gaming professionals. what they were saying was that , only a handful of FPS VG`s were a hit in this market.but even then it was not that much of a success.i mean FPS yeilds a thrilling sensational feeling in the gamer. say ... Duke Nukem for example...for me its really Koool. violence, blood erruptions, killing .....my god it REALLY gives a kick. But as i have never heard these blockbusters mentioned in here i was really inquisitive to determine why ?? its not so. so ......you know what i did ???well .. firstly as all other natural "inqusitive" human beings i tried to find some solutions through the net. Ha! guess what ? ??they say that most of these wetern blockbuster FPS games are not in real taste in here. hey !!!why is that?? if you play Doom for example .. you will not get off from your seat till everything is finished. its that interesting. so no taste of such action means .....come on folks>its cra~zy~ right?? so i did kind an interesting thing. (people this is gonna be a bit long ..pls bear with me ok?) you know i went to to a mature guy who is apperantly a gamer. he gave me some intel on "social perspectives".wow!!!!then i quickly changed my subject to a very young guy ...kindda kool guy who has been expelled from school because of his gaming attitudes in practise. Ha! he was wonderful . he basically gave me a very controversial opinion. said that he dislike the characters , colors, ambience etc. etc. in WRPG`s. But ...he said that he is crazy over Bio Hazard..come on !!!that violates all what he said a bit earlier right?so when i said that i am "baffled "by his opinion change......you know what he said."even though it has all these similarities of the western game..it has been for a long time in here. even before converting to a VG it had had been famous here. that is why it is a hit. and as it does not show that life depletion on the immediate screen in a normal health "bar" it is rather fantstic cos you can see the hart beat fading after the virous is been infected."...kool isnt it. guess i would rather play it and see. bye for now.

From Games to Movies

What is the common thing of Lara Croft, Resident Evil, BloodRayne, Fatal Fury, Pokemon...? They are popular games, and well-known movies ^^. Being first as games, they were just too successul so making it into movies would bring producers a lot of profit.

From Games to Movies - Max Payne

Max Payne is a BAFTA award winning third-person shooter video game developed by the Finnish company Remedy Entertainment, you have played the game and seen the movie?

I just saw the movie, it was cool. The game, as you know, I know, is highly recognized. Who played this? Please share opinions^^
